Our Story
At the end of the 18th century, a Ma family from Shanxi, due to years of famine, was forced to migrate westward to Qinghai. Upon arriving, the family patriarch used his ancestral medical books and secret remedies to provide free treatment to many impoverished patients. His exceptional skills in medicine quickly gained fame, attracting local people who sought his expertise, all without charge.
However, as times became more turbulent and wars erupted, the Ma family gradually fell into decline.
After the reform and opening-up, the descendants of the Ma family revived their ancestral formulas and opened a health and wellness shop in Qinghai. They focused on the prized medicinal herb Cordyceps, adjusting it with their traditional remedies to target specific health areas. The shop, named "Qinghai Tibetan Grass Keeper," gained quick recognition after offering free treatments to middle-aged and elderly people with chronic or rare diseases. The combination of their experience in traditional Chinese medicine and ancestral knowledge helped them quickly build a reputation, moving many local elders to tears.
In the early 19th century, another branch of the Ma family stayed in Pingyao, Shanxi, and using the same secret formulas, opened a traditional medicine hall. Known for his integrity and medical skills, this Ma also expanded into businesses such as tea, fabric, silk, vinegar, and later financial services like pawnshops and escort companies, accumulating significant wealth and becoming one of the wealthiest merchants in the region. This Mr. Ma's success eventually made him the leader of the four great families of Pingyao.
As time passed, "Qinghai Tibetan Grass Keeper" became a trusted destination for health and wellness among locals. The shop not only sold finished supplements made from Cordyceps and other precious herbs but also offered personalized health prescriptions based on customers' individual needs and conditions. These prescriptions combined deep traditional Chinese medicine theories with modern medical adjustments, forming a unique wellness system that attracted more customers.
To meet growing demand, the Ma descendants expanded their business. In addition to their traditional in-store services, they launched online consultations and customization services, leveraging social media platforms and e-commerce channels to enhance their brand's influence. They regularly posted about Chinese medicine wellness, shared success stories, and attracted a large following, especially among younger and out-of-town customers. The customer base expanded beyond Qinghai, reaching nationwide and even international audiences.
